Note to the Pope

When the news web site I work for (USATODAY.com) reported that the Vatican web site had published an e-mail address for the new Pope Benedict XVI, I decided to send His Holiness a brief note. Here's what I wrote:

Most Holy Father,

Warm congratulations on your election and fervent prayers for your ministry and your Communion from a brother in Christ under the See of Canterbury. May God richly bless your ministry, may you show forth His Kingdom, and may your work as His shepherd abundantly bless the world He so loves.

Christ's peace and Christ's strength,
Michael Croghan

If you want to send the Holy Father a note, his e-mail address is:

benedictxvi@vatican.va

Just like the President, no doubt he personally reads every one. ;-)

Hell

"Hell is waking up every God damn morning and not knowing why you're even here. Why you're even breathing." - Marv, Sin City

Ain't that the truth.

Whether you believe that we create our own purpose, that purpose is part of the fabric of the universe (such as the quest for enlightenment), or that God has a (perhaps very broadly sketched) purpose for each of us, my experience is that life is pretty hard to take if you don't feel that it (not "life the abstract concept" but your life) has any purpose at all.

What's your purpose? Or to put it in more postmodern terms, what's your story?

I hope it's a page-turner.
